Electric Wind Generators FAQs
1)
Is wind energy a viable resource to power my Home?
The answer to this question is
multipart and may require a site visit and analysis by
DNL Energy. Here is what needs to be analyzed:
-
Household consumption. Check your utility electric
bills for one year. Take the average use for one
month. This consumption is expressed in kwh on your
bill. This would be the correct sizing for your unit
if you are looking to have all your power needs met.
-
Average wind speed. Get a general idea of the
average wind speed in your area. There are two ways
to find this information.
-
Go to online wind maps
from the U.S. Department of Energy’s “wind &
hydropower technologies program.
www.eere.eneergy.gov/windandhydro/windpoweringamerica/wind_maps.asp
Then click on your States
outline.
-
An accurate way would be
to set up a data collection tower and monitor
and record the wind speed for one year at your
exact location and desired height. This service
can be provided by DNL Energy.
-
Wind generator energy production estimates- take the
average wind speed and using the production graphs
from the electric wind generator you are interested
in you can estimate the monthly and annual
production.
-
Compare consumption with the production estimates
from the size wind generator you are interested in.
2)
What is the difference
between a grid-tie and off-grid wind energy system?
-
Grid connect systems are directly connected with the
Electric Utility system grid via an inverter. The
inverter changes the DC voltage output from the
windmill into a AC voltage at a similar frequency
and synchronizes the power with the utility power
grid. This is all done prior to your connection
point(your household meter) of the windmill.
-
Off grid systems utilize a battery charge circuit.
These systems feed power through a charge-controller
and into a bank of batteries. This type of system is
primarily used in remote locations where grid power
from the utility is not available.
-
Grid connect systems with battery back up. This
system functions as a combination of the two. It
primarily functions as a grid connect but continues
to function via a back-up battery bank when the
local utility grid experiences a power outage.
3)
What are the different types of towers available to
mount the wind turbines?
-
Guyed tilt up towers - these are tubular
sections joined by couplers and supported on 4 sides
by guy wires.
-
Guy less tilt up towers - these are tubular
sections in a self supporting design.
-
Self supporting monopole towers are a tapered
cylindrical structure with no guy wires.
-
Guyed lattice towers are usually utilize a
narrow three legged lattice structure supported on
all three sides by guy wires.
-
Self supporting lattice towers are usually a
three or four legged lattice structure with out guy
wires.

Are there any rebates or tax incentives available?
Each State has its own
programs. Some utility companies also offer rebates to
assist with the installation cost. Contact your local
utility company to see if they have a program. There are
also local tax incentives is some towns. To see if your
town is participating call your Town office or click on
the following link -
http://dsireusa.org.
Some States will also assist
with financing wind projects. There are also grants
available in some States.
Pond
Aeration FAQs
Is
pond aeration effective in keeping my pond clean?
A Koenders windmill is all the maintenance you need to
achieve quality water for a wide variety of applications
from livestock, irrigation gardening, fish farming, golf
courses, recreational use or even household use.
Koenders windmills are an
excellent solution for Pond algae
and pond scum problems.
They
also significantly reduce the risk of West Nile Virus
on your property. West Nile preventative measures to
reduce the spread of the disease start with the aeration
of any stagnant water bodies. Koenders aeration systems
are a perfect fit for the job, providing:
-
With windmill operation you maintain constant water circulation. This will help disrupt
the maturation cycle of the mosquito.
-
Safe, natural alternative for keeping our mosquito
population down.
